SuitUp x More Than Baseball

Partner Objective

More Than Baseball wanted to engage student-athletes in a custom business competition through a sports and leadership lens.

Program Summary

Students from Baychester Middle School teamed up with More than Baseball to design a cleat for METS player, Taijuan Walker, that embodies social justice and the spirit of New York City. The winning design — picked by Judges Harry Sherman, Slade Heathcott and Melissa Bodford — focused on the Black Lives Matter Movement and Times Square. Students wanted to convey that light can always conquer dark, whether its during social unrest, or the lights of NYC at night.

Achieved Objective

Student-athletes were able to translate their athletic skills into an entrepreneurial setting and picture themselves in the corporate world. By using the leadership learned through their sports, they were able to step outside of their comfort zone and act like CEOs for the day.

The winning design was even picked up by professional sneaker artists Stadium Custom Kicks and designed to be worn by Taijuan Walker in his next start. The students received free tickets to the Mets game.
